Happy Good Friday everyone!!

I am so excited about today's Photography Spotlight with Smetona Photo of Southern California. I have the privilege of working Kristin Smetona this morning on a very special style shoot with a super sweet Nashville couple! More deets on that in a future post! I want to introduce Smetona Photo to Nashville Brides because their work is pretty awesome & they are available for travel!

Enjoy my chat with Kristin & the beautiful wedding photography eye candy of Smetona Photo!

1. Give us an overview of Smetona Photo?
Smetona Photo, based in Southern California, is the husband/wife photography team of Kristin and Dustin Smetona. I, Kristin Smetona, was born in Nashville, have photographed weddings in Kansas City, Boston and Southern California. My photography business was originally named Kristin Joy Photography, but after Dustin and I were married in August of 2010 we decided to change the name to Smetona Photo in honor of Dustin's grandfather and his 30-year photography business.

2. How long have you been in business? Six wonderful years!

3. Favorite thing about what you do? We love the moment when the bride and groom see each other for the first time. That's why we always encourage couples to do a "first look" because there is so much joy and emotion that can be captured when it's just the bride and groom together.

4. What is your signature style? We are artistic photojournalists. We value creating the opportunity for couples to interact in a genuine way together. No "say, cheese" here! We would rather have the groom whisper "sweet nothings" in his bride's ear to get her to smile. It's about bringing out the relationship a couple has and capturing it.

5. Most common misconceptions about hiring a wedding photographer? Having a friend or family member photograph your wedding is the same as hiring a professional photographer, after all they are all nice cameras, right? This is a serious mistake lots of brides make and I have seen too many regret this decision. A professional photographer with experience knows weddings better than even the bride does. Us and our equipment are prepared for almost anything in any lighting. Your cousin is not.

6. What's the best advice you can give to brides on selecting a wedding photographer? Pick a photographer you feel like you can really connect and get along with. We always ask our brides if they feel like they could be friends with us outside of their wedding day. If the bride and groom aren't having fun with the photographers, then won't get great pictures because they won't feel relaxed.
