Is this your style?

<span class=

Short wedding dresses are showing up in wedding chapels more & more every season. Brides are choosing to wear these stylish gowns for not only the second dress change at their reception but also for their actual wedding gown.

These gowns are definitely a personal favorite of mine! They are very edgy, chic & if paired with just the right shoe its super sassy!

As a bride, would you wear a short wedding dress? Why or why not?

Shoe Envy...

If you are a bride you have given some thought to what fabulous shoe you will wear on your wedding day. Photographers are so creative in how they are capturing shoe images & I love it! Whether your bridal style is modern, classic or vintage you can create a lasting impression on your guest & add a sassy vibe of your wedding day with your shoe selection! This is your time to experiment with color, design & embellishments for extra sass!
When selecting your bridal gown and/or reception gown remember to bring a fabulous shoe of the same heel height along for your dress fittings to ensure all measurements are accurate with your tailor/seamstress.

This is critical for the right measurement for the hem of your dress especially at your final fitting its always great to bring your actually wedding shoe.

Happy shoe shopping...its always great to have your maids' tag along to get an extra thumbs up on your fab shoe selection!!

Vendor Spotlight - Laidlaw Photography

Photobucket

Name: MD Laidlaw

Company Name: Laidlaw Photography

Years in business: 1 ½

Location: Nashville and surrounding areas

What inspired you to start a photography business?

I started out by taking pictures of my friends, their children, etc.. I ended up shooting the wedding of one of my best friends, which was an honor. It was disappointing when the photos didn't turn out very good. I was passionate about photography, but skills weren't lining up with the artistic prodigy in my head!

I put it on the back burner while pursuing other interests. Shortly after, my husband had suggested that I pull my camera back out and try again. He apparently saw potential in my garbled creative expression (Thanks, honey!)

I realized that I wasn't going to become a better photographer simply by holding a camera and wishing upon a star. That’s when I came across Gray Photography (AMAZING wedding photographers, by the way!). They conduct workshops to help improve aspiring as well as professional photographers in the area. The workshops I attended took my passion and ability to a completely new level. As my work became better, I started getting more jobs, and as I started getting more jobs, I realized that I enjoyed every second of a photo shoot, a bridal session, or a wedding day. It didn’t feel like just a job to me. It felt like FUN! That’s when I decided to open up my own business.

Photobucket

Where do you find your inspiration?

Everywhere! I think other photographers would agree with me on this. You start to see everyday life through the lens of a camera and feel the intense need to capture every moment, every scene, and every object. I also find my inspiration in Oreos dipped in milk. Seriously.

Outside of photography what are some of your favorite things to do?

I love to read, drink coffee, and harass my husband mercilessly (don’t worry, he loves it too!)

What is your favorite moment in a wedding or bridal shoot?

I had to sit and think about this response for a few moments. This is such a GREAT question but very difficult to answer! There are so many amazing moments during weddings and bridal shoots that it’s honestly hard to pick only one. But as I sit here, one moment during the wedding ceremony continually pops up in my mind. The bride has walked the entire length of the aisle and the groom has finally seen his future after 24 hours of separation, she turns from her father once they receive his blessing, gives her bouquet to her Maid of Honor and then reaches for her almost-husband’s outstretched hands. In that split second, you can see both sets of hands trembling right before they grip onto each other as if they would never let go. I love the truth that is evident in those quivering fingers. I believe that’s the point in time when they both comprehend the reality of the union they are entering into. That’s the second when they realize the words they are about to repeat aren’t just words, but truly a promise of the devotion and love they hold for one another. In that second, no longer is she worrying about her hair nor he about the length of his tux. In that one moment, they are joined physically for the last time as individuals and for the first time as one flesh. It’s amazing.

Photobucket

Name 1 thing you can't live without?

Oreos dipped in milk. We have a special bond. I’ve never had to give them up, and the hairs on the back of my neck stand up at the thought of never eating them again.

What qualities or words of advice would you give new brides in selecting a photographer?

Words of advice: Pick the BEST photographer for you! Personality matters just as much as talent and creativity. You’ll want a photographer whose personality compliments your own so that when you work together, you’ll create the best product possible! Don’t skimp financially on this part of your wedding. I’m a firm believer of staying within a budget, but if you need to forgo the sushi bar so that you can afford a better photographer, DO IT! You’ll never remember what Aunt Fran said about the shrimp spring rolls but you’ll always remember how stunning you looked in that perfect dress in the ideal lighting holding a bouquet of exquisite flowers that only a beautiful photograph can remind you.

Personal endorcement - I had the pleasure of working with MD a couple of months ago! I participated in a benefit photo shoot where all contributions went toward a wonderful mission trip. Well, MD was my photographer, and she totally made me feel comfortable & it really was a fun shoot! MD has an amazing personality & creative edge & I can't wait to work with her on a wedding!!

Nashville brides I know you will love working with MD, check out more of her amazing work!

Petal Send Off

On your wedding day, you have many options for your grand exit or send off from your wedding reception. Back in the day, some of the most common were rice, birdseed, and bubbles. Now with brides wanting to be eco-chic for their wedding some of the older send off options may not be great for the environment.

The petal toss is an ancient ritual to toss fresh or dried flower petals. The petals are definitely biodegradable & easily carried away by the wind. Common petals are the rose petals or lavender buds.

Paper cones are easily made by using 8.5" x 11" sheets of printable paper, scissors with a deckle-wedge blade, clear tape or blue stick & your dried petals or fresh petals. Common designs for cones bear the couple's name & wedding date. Your wedding planner or another designated attendant can distribute the cones before your grand send off!

**Be sure to clear the send off with your reception site to ensure there is not a clean up fee for the petals**

Hello My Name Is.....

A bride has three options in regards to her last name - she can take her husband's last name, retain her own, or hyphenate her own & her husband's last names. Whatever option you choose becomes legally binding when you sign it on your marriage license.

When you change your name be aware that several people, agencies, and organizations must be notified. A few of the common agencies to notify include the Social Security Administration, your state motor vehicle department, employer payroll/human resources, passport agency, credit card companies, voter registration & your bank and/or credit union.

There are also many many others which may include:
  • Physicians
  • Religious affiliations
  • Academic institutions/records
  • Internal Revenue Service
  • Memberships {gym, etc}
  • Mortgage or rental agreement
  • Legal documents
  • Telephone listing
  • Email accounts
  • Magazine subscriptions

Also during this time of discussion with your fiance it may also be helpful to consider additional discussions. These consist of your existing retirement plans which also include your beneficiaries, existing insurance policies & contacting both employers to make the necessary adjustments to federal deductions & possibly state deductions if you reside in a Commonwealth state.

Exciting time for change!!! Good luck!

To Inspire

This weekend was absolutely amazing!! I was able to catch up on a lot of task, hang out with great friends and read a couple of books.

My focus this weekend for my readings was on Excellence and I ran across two great quotes while reading that I wanted to share!

"Just make up your mind at the very outset that your work is going to stand for quality...that you are going to stamp a superior quality upon everything that goes out of your hands, that whatever you do shall bear the hallmark of excellence." - Orison Swett Marden

"Never tell people how to do things. Tell them what to do and they will surprise you with their ingenuity." - General George S. Patton

Be inspired on today.....

Are you ballin' on a budget?

The word ballin' is a loosely used slang term that means you have "money".  The rap song by Jim Jones, "We Fly High" made the term a commonly used word, so common that its in Wikipedia!

As you are preparing for your wedding & trying to stick to your budget.... I am positive you want to give your wedding party attendants nice gifts.  Well you are in luck today, because I am sharing one of my secret tips!! Even though you may be "on a budget" you can still give oh so fab gifts for the low!

What's my secret?  Half Off Depot!
This great website allows you to purchase giftcards to some really cool places for...you guessed it half off!

Here is how it works:
  •  Log on to their website
  • Select the city: right now its only available in Jacksonville, FL; Louisville, KY; Altanta, GA; Jackson, MS; Knoxville & Nashville, TN
  • Purchase them at Half Off Depot for half of the giftcard value
  • Certificates are mailed to you & you use them for full value.
  • Wonderful right?
So let's say you have a Bridesmaid or Groomsmen that lives in one of the participating cities, you can give them a local giftcard and they will think you went all out just to make it accommodating for them!  Great right!  Yeah I know....Thank me later!!

Nashville Brides you are really lucky because there are some really great places like the Cooper Kettle, Caesar's Italian Restaurant, Ru Sans & one of my personal faves:  The Cupcake Collection!!!

Check out Half Off Depot, so you can stick to your wedding budget and look like you are ballin'!

The Foundation of Great Fitting Bridal Attire

Growing up my mother always reminded me of the importance of wearing great "foundations" as she would call them!  A woman's under garments can either make or break even those most expensive suit or even the most couture bridal gown.

In accompanying brides with their dress shopping, I immediately revert back into my former retail mode of, "Stylize, Colorize, Size"  this holds true to many avenues even with shopping for the perfect fit when selecting bridal gowns & bridesmaid dresses!

Of course you want to select the right "style" for your body type, of course you want to select the right "color" palette to compliment your wedding color palette.  Most importantly its perfectly fine to get a slightly larger "size" dress for yourself or your maids.  In selecting the correct sizing & having a tailor or seamstress custom fit it for your body is almost like having the gown custom made for your body!  Selecting just the perfect under garments under your bridal dresses will also make all the difference in the overall appearance of your dress!
