Internet Crime

Just a quick up date. I just got off the phone with TBI (Tennessee Bureau of Investigation) and who knew they had a complete "Internet Crime Division"? From what I read on the site, this is a part of the Internet Scam that they label as "3rd Party Receiver of Funds" Scam.

Please pass this information along to others in the wedding industry or actually family and friends because there is a long list of other scams using the internet.

The Scam Continues..

I received this email this morning! However he did not answer any of the 16 questions about specifics for the ceremony & reception etc. Yet I received the email below....he's way to eager to give me money!!!! We really have never discussed prices outside of my general price list....

Dear Latrice,Good to read from you. I am glad that you accepted to plan my wedding. It is my first wedding and i want it to be a memorable event. The reception should be in a 4 or 5 star hotel. You will be taking care of all this arrangements and decorations. The other arrangements for the other guests will be handled by my logistic agent.

This wedding is been sponsored by my father and we have a budget of over $50,000, so I require first class services. I will be glad to answer all your questions, but i want you to go through the instruction below.

I am glad to tell you that we have concluded all payment arrangements.I will send to you my credit card details that will cover the deposit for you and other vendors you will be working with.Moreover,we also made an arrangement with a logistics agent who will take care of all the other guests logistics to include

.1)Accommodation 2) Flights 3) International Airport transfer 4)Transportation logistics during our stay

However,because of security reasons and confidentiality reposed on you and because they do not have credit card facility,we have decided that only YOU will have to handle the credit card information. I will be making an initial deposit of $2,000 to you for you to start up any arrangements, then subsequently, i will complete the funds as soon as they are needed.

So,once you receive my credit card information,you are required to charge the total amount of { $9,000 + bank charges} then deduct your deposit which is {$2,000} and send the balance of { $7,000} to the logistics whose information will be forwarded to you once this is confirmed So confirm this and provide me with your 1. YOUR FULL NAME 2. ADDRESS 3. PHONE NUMBERS for office records.

You are also to deduct the visa fees and taxes involved in processing this amount.PLEASE CONFIRM IF THIS ARRANGEMENT IS OK AND REPLY PROMPTLY TO ENABLE US PROCEED. All other payments will be made subsequently.

Planner Beware....Email Scam

For the past couple of weeks, I have been in communication with a gentleman that was planning his wedding and wanted a memorable day for his fiance here in the city of Nashville. His first email, was very professional, raised no red flags so I responded back to him with my general "Thank you for your interest in Bridal Opulence" letter. To my surprise, he emailed back and wanted to proceed, but still was very vague with his information.

That's when my "Inspector Gadget & I Spy self" started doing a little research! The emails were being sent from an oilrig.com email account, so I googled that & it was a legitimate company. He also listed a secondary "Rocketmail" account and I tried to trace that. I had heard about bridal industry wedding scams, and knew the warning flags of incorrect spelled words, etc. This email was a really good one. Something still just did not sit well for me in my gut. You know those gut feelings you really have to listen!

Here is a copy of the 1st email that he sent to me:

Hello,My Name is Mr Cross James Allen,

I am looking for an experienced wedding planner who will handle my wedding and arrange the reception dinner for a group of people who will be attending the wedding ceremony.

The wedding is expected to hold on the 22nd of November 2008 and 25 to 40 guests are expected to attend. As i do not know what the guests might choose for their meals and drinks, i will make a prepayment as initial deposit for this booking via credit card or check once availability is confirmed by you.All checks and balances will be made with you on 22nd September which is the final day of the booking, You are to arrange for a a venue for the wedding (its a catholic wedding), a place for the reception ,Videography, Music Entertainment,Photography,cake and flowers.

If there is any these items that is beyond your capability, you let us know so that another company can handle it. Get back to me with your response as we don't have much time with us so that we can process our accommodation within the region more convenient for you and us.

Seemed like a pretty normal letter wouldn't you say? That's when the 2nd or 3rd email came in and all the bells & whistles started going off for me that this was a scam, but it was a clever one, because it did not ask me for any money. He was going to send me money...That's always a great thing! It was in the 2nd letter that I started putting all the pieces together, when he mentioned is guest were coming in from other countries & only using a credit card...very sketchy!

I will like to apologize for not getting back to you sooner than now.Its nice of you to respond to my inquiry. It is the wish of my finance to get married in your area and I have to give in to her wish and due to the fact i do not have any one there, you will be responsible for all arrangements.

I will be arriving with my Fiance 7 days before the wedding and i need you to also make arrangement for our accommodation.I will need you to book 2 double rooms for us for 7 nights and one honey moon suite for the night of the wedding.

We have a budget of about $50,000 USD which includes payment for your fees,all the other vendors you will be working with and that of our logistic agentAside us, i am also expecting 30 to 40 other guest from Uk, USA, Asia and Africa.

I am working with a logistic agent that will take care of their arrival and accommodation arrangements.I need this wedding to be a memorable one and if possible an outdoor weeding with lots of flowers and beautiful colors. It is a catholic wedding.

I need you to get back to me with a total estimate that will cover this arrangement so that i can make a deposit payment to enable you start arrangements as time is not on our side.

I am at an oil rig in Iraq now and the only means of payment that will be possible for me from here will be via my Credit card. I hope this will not pose any problem to you.

Ok, so many of my close friends know that I am TV Junkie, more so a reality TV Junkie. You name it, I set my TiVo to record it! I know there really needs to be a program for people like myself.

Project Runway by far is my favorite, I fell in love last season with Christian "it is so fierce!!!''-, Siriano from Season 4. He has a sense of style and design that I could only dream about not to mention his signature style of the Vest and tight pants.

Affordable Custom Stationery

A few weeks ago, I ventured out of my comfort zone and went to the Nashville Flea Market. Now, I am a shopper at heart, but flea markets have always given me hives! *Well not really, but many of the ones that I have gone to have really been unorganized* However, the Nashville Flea Market changed my perception. I met great jewelry vendors, custom gift baskets designers, and Stefanie of Good Things!

I ventured out early on a Sunday morning and to my surprise, I met some really good connections for brides.

In search of a Trendy Hotel Part 2...Hotel Indigo

I was so excited to go to Hotel Indigo, I had heard so many great reviews on the service at the hotel and also the contemporary decor which is right up my alley! I met Michele Andrews who is in the Sales Department at the hotel for afternoon tour of the hotel, but specifically the Penthouse Suite for a upcoming engagement party.

Michele provides the best tours and is also a upcoming bride herself so we hit it off great!

Our first stop....Guest Rooms.

The guest rooms are very warm & very inviting. The room pictured has 2 queen size beds & very contemporary decor and furniture & oak & cherry wood flooring.

Seating area in the Guest room, the sofa is also a sofa sleeper! Don't you just love the ottoman!

2 flat panels TV's help to create "another living space" with the seating area.

The bathrooms...are a serene green color & the hotel only uses complimentary Aveda Products!

Next stop....the much anticpated Penthouse Suite. This suite has its own private floor and entrance. It consist of Main seating area, Contemporary kitchen, dining area, Master Bedroom & Bath, Guest bedroom & bath. 2 private balconies (off the main room & also in the guest room quarters) The penthouse can entertain 40-45 people very comfortable for small intimate parties.

During the tour, Michele and I decided that it really would be a great place to have a Bachelorette & Bachelor party because you could have a room for the girls & guys both equipped with private balconies with a great view of the Nashville downtown skyline!

Ok, got a little sidetracked back to showing you this great suite.....
